The Shrimpers #1 and The Shrimpers #2. 48” x 36”. 2023. $2,700 each.
Since seeing these Shrimpers docked near Shem Creek I always knew that I would eventually paint them. These are my first paintings where I see my art making a transition from purely South African and Mozambican inspiration to incorporate Charleston and my life in America. I have been obsessed with painting Mozambican dhows for years and I can see an obsession with painting the Charleston Shrimpers slowly starting.
When the World is in Shades of Blue. 36 x 48”. 2025. $2,700.
Watching the Leaves. 30 x 48”. 2025. $2,500.
Changing Leaves. 30 x 48”. 2025. $2,500.
These two works were created in the middle of our North Carolinian winter. My works are inspired by nature, light and how the landscapes around us are continuously changing. On a particularly grey Winter’s day, Watching the Leaves was started. I was yearning for warmth and brightness. When Watching the Leaves was completed the vast disconnection between the piece and my surrounding wintery landscape inspired me to create Changing Leaves, a piece that, in the moment branched the gap, between the compositions and the landscape they were created in.
